JCU Gladiators Head to Barcelona for World InterUniversities Championship
On Thursday, November 15, 2018, JCU Athletics headed to Barcelona, Spain with a group of student-athletes to participate for the first time in the 4th World InterUniversities Championships.
After last semester’s Women’s Futsal team participation in the ACG International Sports Festival in Athens, this time, it’s the Men’s Basketball and Men’s Futsal teams’ turn to represent John Cabot University.
More than 2,5000 students enrolled in 80 universities from all over the world will try to defend their alma maters in this tournament in a celebration of sports, fair play, and cultural exchange.
JCU Men’s Basketball will have to beat 24 teams if they want to earn the winning title, while JCU Men’s Futsal will have to deal with 34 teams.
On Thursday and Friday, JCU Gladiators will play in the qualifying rounds. The Men’s Basketball team will have to face the American University of Cairo, the Politehnica University of Bucharest, and HEC Paris. Instead, the Men’s Futsal team will play against the Czech Technical University in Prague, the American University of Cairo, and Paris School of Business.
Only the first two teams of the respective pool will have access to the Final Eight, which will take place on Friday night for basketball and on Saturday morning for Futsal. The Final Day is scheduled for Saturday afternoon.
Follow the matches on John Cabot University Athletics’ Facebook and Instagram account. All the games will be live streamed on the tournament’s World InterUniversities Facebook page.
The entire JCU community wishes our JCU Gladiators the best of luck! Make us proud!
