JCU Kicks Off Sustainability Month with "Triggering Change" Competition
JCU kicks off Sustainability Month with the Triggering Change Competition, on November 2, 2022. Triggering Change is a two-tiered event that culminates in a two-minute video where participants pitch their ideas and propose a solution to a specific environmental problem. The aim of the competition is to use creativity and engagement to spark action on environmental sustainability.
On November 2, at 6 pm, participants can attend an online introductory workshop where they can learn more about the pitch. To prepare students for the pitch, the Institute for Entrepreneurship in collaboration with the London-based creative agency The Liminal Space will provide a 60-minute online recorded session that will offer inspiration and training on how to use creativity and engagement to spark action on sustainability. The final pitch needs to be submitted by November 23, at 8 pm. The winners will be announced on November 28, at the Triggering Change Award Ceremony.
The selection committee will be composed of JCU Professor Tanja Lanza, entrepreneur and senior strategy consultant at the European Institute of Innovation for Sustainability, JCU Professor of Business and Communication Michèle Favorite, consultant on environmental sustainability content strategy, alumna Asia Guerreschi (Class of 2016), founder of “Rethinking Climate” and Ph.D. Candidate in Sustainability and Wellbeing and alumnus Giacomo di Capua (Class of 2021), postgraduate researcher in Climate Health Economics, and environmental advocate.
Last semester, the winners were Riccardo Pagliara and Sophia Caruso, with their pitch “Botany Class – A Pitch for Roman Elementary School Presidents,” Lia Piazza, with “Deforestation,” and Martina Laici and Tommaso Sopranzetti, with “Conserve Water, Conserve Life.”
Triggering Change, supported by John Cabot’s Frank J. Guarini School of Business, is part of a university-wide effort to capture the community’s commitment to educating purposeful young minds about the importance of environmental, social, and economic sustainability. This is an endeavor that cuts across disciplines and finds expression in both academic and extracurricular activities, such as the Certificate in Sustainability, the Alumni Sustainability Hub, the Grassroots Club, the JCU Enactus chapter, as well as the research of its faculty.
