This academic year’s Research Talks series of the Department of Economics and Social Sciences has been launched with a talk by JCU Professor of Applied Data Analytics Alina Sorgner. Prof. Sorgner presented her current research on the impact of new digital technologies on gender equality in developing countries.

John Cabot University, in cooperation with the United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute (UNICRI), organized the fourth edition of the Summer Course on Migration and Human Rights, which took place from the 15th to the 19th of July. The aim of the course is to equip post-graduate students and young professionals with legal, social, scientific and theoretical tools to better understand and tackle the growing challenges of international migration.

Professor Shannon Russell’s Italian Visions: Perceptions of Italy in Literature class focuses on the creative importance of Italy for non-Italian writers of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. The course looks at the ways cultural stereotypes are both constructed and persist. Students were asked to curate each other’s reading journals and to use their selections to create a group Storymap project.
