La Ronda del Caffelatte Volunteers Deliver Breakfast to the Homeless
It has been a rainy week in Rome but the Community Service Team has been hard at work. On January 30th, La Ronda del Caffelatte e Dolci met under a crowd of umbrellas in Piazza Mastai to deliver breakfast to the homeless and needy of Trastevere. Community Service Coordinator Julia del Papa and Student Services Assistant Sarah Hammond would like to thank their volunteers: Sarah Lowery, Alberto Romano, Joanne Wycklendt, and Veronica Puhalla-Newmann, along with the volunteers of La Ronda della Solidarietà.
JCU volunteers distributed plenty of coffee, milk, cookies, and fresh fruit, while chatting with the participants over breakfast. The highlight of the morning: one of the habitual customers, a political refugee, had finally received the travel documents he had been waiting for to be able to travel to Burma to visit his family after decades of asylum.
Helping others is what makes Community Service’s work most rewarding! Every Thursday morning La Ronda del Caffèlatte e Dolci meets at 8:45am in front of the Student Services Office.
