MUN Society Hosts Sixth Annual Conference for High School Delegates
On February 4, 5 and 6, JCU’s Model United Nations Society hosted its Sixth Annual MUN Conference for high school delegates. 75 students, each representing an assigned state, came from schools all across Rome and the surrounding areas. The conference’s topic was Nuclear Security, Disarmament and Non-Proliferation. The three-day conference was organized and supervised by the student members of the university’s MUN Society.
The event started on Thursday February 4 with the opening ceremony conducted by the Secretary General of the Conference, Giuseppe Spatafora. The two guest speakers, experts in nuclear-related issues, were JCU Alumnus Roberto Maria Sciarra and Professor Pejman Abdolmohammadi. The opening ceremony also included speeches by JCU President Franco Pavoncello, the MUN Faculty Advisor Pamela Harris, the club’s President Cristian Tracci and Vice-President Davide Orsitto.
The young delegates debated in the Aula Magna representing their 75 assigned states and practicing their diplomacy, negotiation and public speaking skills. Under the direction and guidance of the two Chairmen, Cristian Tracci and Davide Orsitto, the delegates learned and practiced the MUN rules of procedure, drafted and finally approved a resolution on the topic.
The following delegates received an award for their exceptional contributions to the debate:
